Lawrence Hatfield

Proactive, collaborative and results focussed have been the hallmarks of Lawrence Hatfield’s service to his clients in law and his country in uniform.  No matter how complex, unique or challenging the issues, Lawrence has the ability to bring people together.

Lawrence has become an expert in dispute resolution through his principled, but pragmatic, approach to obtaining the optimum outcomes for his clients during his years as a successful litigator. Lawrence’s commitment to the importance of mediation was borne out when in Keam v Caddey the Court of Appeal of Ontario endorsed his arguments on the value of private mediation.

As a decorated senior officer in the Canadian Armed Forces, which included two tours of Afghanistan, Lawrence fine tuned his mediation skills on a daily basis as he managed several competing factions.   This experience has provided him with unique expertise in resolving disputes among people with diverse backgrounds and interests.

Lawrence’s commitment to his community extends beyond his military service.   He has been Chair of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Hamilton-Burlington. He has also served with the Ontario Legal Aid Appeals Board, the Ontario Provincial Police Auxiliary and as an OMHA Rep Hockey Coach.  For more details on Lawrence’s record of public service, please visit his LinkedIn page.

Lawrence received his B.A. (Honours) from Memorial University and his LL.B from the University of Windsor Law School.  He is a member of both the Bar of Ontario and the Bar of Newfoundland and Labrador.
